• Ancient Origins: The earliest evidence of a bowling-like game was discovered in the tomb of an Egyptian child, dating back to approximately 5200 B.C.  These primitive versions involved rolling stone balls at objects intended to be knocked down.
  • European Development: Various forms of bowling developed across Europe over time. For example, German historians have noted that early Germanic tribes practiced a game involving rolling stones at club-shaped objects called "kegels" as a religious ritual around 300 A.D.
  • Modern Indoor Bowling: While outdoor versions existed in Europe for centuries, the first indoor bowling lane in the United States was constructed in New York City in 1840.
